Day 4 - Isaac Wolff


Through my capstone project, I have gotten to learn about my advisor, Mr. Gahan; in fact, I learned a total of 3 things about Mr. Gahan. I learned these 3 things about Mr. Gahan when he visited my house yesterday to see how my capstone project was progressing.

Right as he parked in front of my house, I learned the first thing: Mr. Gahan drives a minivan, and I respect that.

The second thing I learned about Mr. Gahan is that he always has a fantastic outfit. Being that he had no classes yesterday, you would think that he might wear jeans and a t-shirt when making his visits; however, Mr. Gahan arrived to my house wearing a button up, tie, and a sports coat, and I respect that.

Finally, the third thing I learned about Mr. Gahan is that he has an amazing preference for fast food. Before Mr. Gahan arrived at my house, Levi and I were eating lunch at Skyline Chili. Knowing that I would see him soon, I decided to text Mr. Gahan asking if he would like anything. Mr. Gahan replied with, "I'd love some chili three way," which consists of spaghetti, cheese, and chili. When I handed Mr. Gahan his lunch, along with the obligatory Skyline Chili bib, his face lit up. Mr. Gahan was ecstatic. At that point, I learned he loves Skyline Chili, and I respect that.

Thanks to my capstone project, I have been able to get to know my advisor a little better, and I now have a new found respect for him.

To be honest, for our movie to turn out well, we will need a miracle. It is more likely for Dr. Phil to go back to college to become an actual doctor than for this project to turn out well. That's sad. Dr. Phil is successful, so there's no way he'll go back, and we have 6 hours of footage, so there's no way that I will edit it in its entirety. Why do I have so much footage? Day 1 - Elena Tarullo

One thing neither me nor Owsley foresaw was the change of our ideas. We started today feeling pretty lost and had some very vague ideas but after a few hours of brainstorming, we really made a cohesive plan which was different from our original vision. One major change to our vision was the inclusion of nature images within the film which we did not previously envision. I think we attempted to put too much pressure on ourselves instead of letting inspiration come to us in filming on site.

Thursday was a rather uneventful day. We made a button board that would allow us to move our polyurethane ball up and down, but without the part we ordered we couldn't conduct any other tests on our device. We called our work day done early and went home, ready to get the project done the following day Friday. What a day. Although it had a poor start, the day progressively got better. It was Ethan Kincaid's birthday, so I went out and bought donuts for everyone to share. Unbeknownst to me, Ethan also brought in donuts, so we had 24 donuts to split between 6 people. Our part never shipped out of California, and it wasn't going to come until 8 PM, so we couldn't conduct any tests on our device. We figured out the source of our problem, which was that we had plugged the battery in the wrong way which caused the part to short circuit.
