Day 4, 5 - Eli Allen


Day 4:

Dud and I had a conference Thursday so we were MIA.

Day 5:

I woke up in the morning, and I showered, played 2K, and then made my way to Slater's house to meet everyone. We first put Slater's two mountain bikes on the back of my mother's Toyota Highlander. Then we proceeded to mount the Freytag's kayak on Slater's sister's SUV. After we loaded up all our materials, we headed East towards Beckley Park–stopping for a bite a Dairy Queen on the way. When we arrived we got the kayak down and walked it to the creek. I used my GoPro clamp and attached it to the front of the kayak so that it got a good shot as we moved down river. Slater and I kayaked first then Nate and Tuan followed; however, their ride did not go as swimmingly as ours. Despite Nate's numerous remarks that, "[They]'d be fine," the two nailed a tree and capsized. Luckily, nothing was damaged or lost. After a long wet walk back from the scene of the accident to the parked car, Tuan was ready to leave. So he did. As a result, Nate, Slater, and I mountain biked in his absence. It was a good day.

To be honest, for our movie to turn out well, we will need a miracle. It is more likely for Dr. Phil to go back to college to become an actual doctor than for this project to turn out well. That's sad. Dr. Phil is successful, so there's no way he'll go back, and we have 6 hours of footage, so there's no way that I will edit it in its entirety. Why do I have so much footage? Again, I think I am brilliant--the next Hemingway or Speilburg--so I think all my ideas are amazing when, in reality, I am probably 2-for-5 on good ideas. My day began with me waking up 15 minutes before my scheduled meeting with Dr. Sowell. I have had this meeting scheduled for 2 days, but I was tired, and I snoozed my alarm clock about four different times. I somehow made it to school on time and had time to shower. Wow. Day 1 - Elena Tarullo

One thing neither me nor Owsley foresaw was the change of our ideas. We started today feeling pretty lost and had some very vague ideas but after a few hours of brainstorming, we really made a cohesive plan which was different from our original vision. One major change to our vision was the inclusion of nature images within the film which we did not previously envision. I think we attempted to put too much pressure on ourselves instead of letting inspiration come to us in filming on site.

Day 4/5

Thursday was a rather uneventful day. We made a button board that would allow us to move our polyurethane ball up and down, but without the part we ordered we couldn't conduct any other tests on our device. We called our work day done early and went home, ready to get the project done the following day Friday. What a day. Although it had a poor start, the day progressively got better. It was Ethan Kincaid's birthday, so I went out and bought donuts for everyone to share. Unbeknownst to me, Ethan also brought in donuts, so we had 24 donuts to split between 6 people. Our part never shipped out of California, and it wasn't going to come until 8 PM, so we couldn't conduct any tests on our device. We figured out the source of our problem, which was that we had plugged the battery in the wrong way which caused the part to short circuit.
